THANKFUL: Graphic Design

November 20th, 2007 by marc

In honor of the holiday this week I thought I’d make a few posts of things I am grateful for. The first is a little complicated so I’ll explain. Yesterday I got the DVD of the film Helvetica in the mail. I’ve yet to screen it but I did watch the extras, and I must say that I LOVE Helvetica (the font) and being a designer (only a designer could watch a film about a typeface and get weak in the knees). The extras on the DVD are interviews of all the designers that are featured in the film talking about various design topics. Watching these masterminds really is a treat and humbling all at the same time. It is humbling in the fact that these legends call themselves or use the same job description as I do (Graphic Designer). So I am grateful for designers like Massimo Viginelli, David Carson, Michael Beirut, Paula Scher… and for working at a job that I feel so passionate about. Thank heavens for design. Below is one of my favorite clips from the extras featuring David Carson. Enjoy.

  1. It’s all about dinbats. Carson had one of the best segments in the film.
