Dear Santa, How about a sofa?

December 3rd, 2011

Today is going to be a busy day. Here’s the list: Buy Christmas tree, decorate christmas tree, trip to home depot, fix backyard gate/ fence, figure out how to get a massive tree out of the backyard and get the neighbor’s insurance to pick up the tab, family christmas party, drive to christmas party 1.5 hours away, get presents for kids for santa to give at previously mentioned party, work on design for latest themeforest project, design family christmas card…

This is what happens when it’s December and you have 2 weekends left before your wife gives birth.

I must admit today while lying in bed right before getting out I actually was picturing life with this new baby. And I felt excited. Before it’s usually been a heavy weight of all the things I need to get done before our lives get thrown into chaos, and we have to figure out the new normal (I’ve been around this new kid block before).

Anyway, Santa if you’re reading this do you think you can get this sofa down our chimney? Six months ago shopping with Susan at Anthropologie I sat on this sofa and it was a dream. Best seat in the world, but of course because it’s Anthro it’s priced a bit higher than our ikea budget. And after thinking of a million things this morning somehow this one joined the other frazzled thoughts. Now I better get my head out of the cloud and get some real work done.

Merry Xmas.

Great Food and Good Company

November 25th, 2011

Thanksgiving was with the in-laws this year and a pretty good one to boot. There was great food thanks to everyone, and the company wasn’t bad at all.

As you can see in the photos above I am grateful for my family. My lovely pregnant wife has complained little for nine months despite the parasite sucking her life and energy away. We’ve known each other now for 10 years and she’s still my number one friend. I have the cutest and best kids too. They are so good and fun to have around. I can only hope this next one will be as awesome as they are.

Yesterday also was Susan’s 37 week of pregnancy, and I guess that means we got like 3 weeks left. Crazy. I don’t know how to really prepare. Ready or not I guess.

Despite the photos it really was a great night

32

It was my birthday this past weekend, and the kids and wife made it perfect. Loved it. 32 is going to be a fantastic year. I can feel it.

My Sweet Studio

July 16th, 2011

Last night when I came home I had to laugh at the sight of our basement living room/ office/ toy/ exercise room. The kids had taken just about every toy they could find and walled in our dog Diesel’s bed. After the kids went down for bed I came downstairs and there was Diesel all snuggled in tenderly loving Gem’s teddy bears. So that was a funny site, but the other funny part is related to my last post.

It seems just about everywhere I turn on the internet creative types are sharing their design or work space with the world. I don’t know if it’s we feel like sharing our creative space will make us more legit or creative, but there are countless blogs and websites dedicated to just showcasing amazing workspaces, and home studios that look beautful, and inspiring, and like one person lives there. And so I thought it was funny to compare the photo above of our crowded little basement room that serves the whole family, to some of the other office space I’ve seen recently (photos below).

It just goes to show you don’t have to have a great studio space to create great work. Would I have any of the spaces below over our crowded basement? Yes, but for now I work a couple hours a day from it and it’s always too early or too late for anyone else to be awake, or else I’m on the go with my laptop finding 15 minutes here and there to get projects done (like today while I waited for my pediatrist). I do wish Susan would let me get ride of the “Cabin in the Woods” fireplace though. That thing is so out of place in our home, and a hugh DIY fail by the previous home owner.
