HOT OFF THE PRESS

October 20th, 2006

peace and fingerprint

Today I received my new Chen Design Associates’ (CDA) book FINGERPRINT. This book is solid gold. It is filled with dozens of examples of handmade elements in graphic design—which is so hot right now.

Because I pre-ordered the book I also got a sweet deal on CDA’s Peace 100 Ideas. This book has been out for a couple of years, but I’ve wanted a copy ever since I had the opportunity to hear Josh Chen give a lecture in one of my early typography classes. If I were to be asked “who in the design world do I find to be an inspiration and design legend?” I would say Joshua Chen.

HAPPY B-DAY (3 DAYS EARLY)

October 13th, 2006

me hot

Today my new sunglasses arrived. Susan encouraged me or basically told me to buy them (she is the greatest). So this is my birthday present three days early—she’s also very generous to give me the package today when it arrived (no holding it until Monday). I was a little hesitant when I first pulled them out, but after taking a few self-portraits with my iSite I have to admit I look hot. Thanks Baby.

YES PLEASE. VOLVO C30

October 8th, 2006

I think it’s just about time to get rid of my rusty bucket of bolts that I use to get to work and and drive off with a new Volvo C30. It was just recently announced at the Paris car show and who knows if it will even end up here in the States, but the car is quite lovely (if you ask me). It would be a hugh upgrade from my current Jeep Wrangler I’ve been driving since I was seventeen. Surprisingly the jeep has been a good car, but now it’s almost falling apart. If I take a left turn too sharp the gears slip out and you hear this awful grinding or scrapping like the whole thing is about to come a part and there I’ll be with my feet on the pavement like Fred Flintstone.

Here’s a short video of the design aspects of the new C30. I’m “borrowing” it off the Volvo C30 site which is really fantastic. It’s definitely worth a visit—though the navigation seems a little awkward, and the videos are filmed in 16×9 but presented squished in 4X3. All in all it’s a cute site. Nothing award winning by all means but the car…maybe in 2007…or maybe I’ll still be driving the jeep. PS did I mention I love Scandinavian Design? Let’s all move to Sweden.
